The amount of adrenaline coursing thru my veins as I crouched over the fuel tank of my ATV with a wide open throttle, throwing dirt behind me as the machine screamed up the hills was amazing. Seeing the sand shoot off the quad's knobby tires was a rush as the ATV dug in and powered out of the high banked buttonhook turns. The smell of the sage brush in the morning air coupled with the dust from the small group of riders that followed tour guide, Kevin, down the first trail was more than enough "caffeine" to wake me up.
Awesome Adventure tour guides, Kevin and Blair, made us all feel like we had been friends for a long time. They spent time in the morning getting the group used to the feel of the bikes and what kind of power we had underneath of us. After a few hills and turns and starts and stops, Kevin started to pick up the pace. Before long we were ripping down the trails trying to catch a glimpse of the sage brush that we were flying past. After tearing up the trails for about an hour, we stopped up on top of a mesa to take a much needed breather to let the adrenaline settle a bit.
The view of the valley below was breathtaking, off in the distance you could see the red rock of The Valley Of Fire, which we toured at the end of the day.
After relaxing for a bit, we headed out again on the trails. New thrills and challenges awaited as we took off again. As the size and steepness of the hills increased so did the speeds. The thrills soared to heights that got my heart pumping faster and faster.
Just when I thought things could not get more exciting, we headed over to the Zip-Line! This brought a whole new level of exhilaration! Standing on the edge of the platform, it appeared to be at least 100 feet high, I thought my hart was going to jump out of my chest (I’m just a little afraid of heights). As I looked down the cable I was harnessed to, it seemed like it was a mile long.
That first step off the platform and adrenaline rushing through my body was unbelievable Then the uphoric feeling of flying thru the air like a bird was almost like a dream. It was almost as if time had stopped just for me to enjoy the awesome feeling of floating on the wind. I really didn't want this ride to end. Now that my blood was really pumping, we headed out to The Valley Of Fire for a relaxing drive thru the bright red sandstone to end the day.
A special thanks to Awesome Adventures and our tour guides Kevin and Blair for a fantastic, fun filled day.
